Food Photography
Long before it became part of my job, I always enjoyed photographing food. For these projects I handled everything: cooking, styling, photography, and sometimes even the hand modeling.
Multiple exposures and compositing were required when I only had the budget for two steaks, but wanted to show a whole side.
Hot grills mean you need to work fast and shoot in bursts to capture a little fire magic
Thin slices translate the sharpness of this carving knife.
Alternate uses for a carving set.
Griddle magic. Fresh veggies bring vibrancy and life.
Making a stacked burger pop in an overhead view required trial and error. The bloop of ketchup balanced all nicely.
For this burger press image, choosing the right bun helped pull the composition together.
To demonstrate a non-stick grilling sheet meant putting the camera on a timer so I could pick it up.
An orange chicken recipe was chosen to incorporate brand colors into this packaging photo.

This started as with a photo twisted and twirled through a Tiny Planet app, then reinterpreted through woodburning.
Top of a mountain. Take in the view, then turn around and realize how small your are.
The Beaver. North America's largest rodent. Only comes out just before dark I discovered after watching his dam for a damn long time.
An oldie from before HDR was a setting on your phone. I saw this old abandoned truck and wanted to bring it alive.
Macro marbles, bokeh bubbles, and a doodly dood who doesn't know what's about to hit him.
I love the bass guitar. Seeing someone caught in the groove makes me want to capture it. Even if I can't play it.
The underpainting. The beauty of painting with digital tools is you can turn of the layers of detail and realize that the gestural sketch beneath it all is where the magic is.
Rush make detailed, textured and complicated music and I wanted to make something that complimented that. A picture in 7/8
I didn't appreciate the joy, disbelief, and despair that a cornhole tournament can conjure until I captured this moment.
