I tell stories. And yes, they move.

Whether it’s a logo, an explainer, or an animated short, I bring 20+ years of experience in motion design, 3D animation, and video editing to the table. I use the usual suspects—After Effects, Blender, Premiere, Character Animator, and toss in a few curveballs for fun.

Illustrations created with Procreate and animated with After Effects.

    Cruise Controller Replacement

This How-to video was produced to help walk consumers through the steps of replacing a component of their grill. I enjoy the challenge of finding spots to position the camera so that it captures every step clearly. The engineer, Chris Bennett, was incredibly helpful, both demonstrating the steps and providing me the outline for the voice over I recorded.

  • CharBroil Re-brand Product video template

    CharBroil Re-brand Product video template

I was part of the creative team that took on the task of re-branding CharBroil Grills in its 75th year of operations. I was provided with a style guide for logo, fonts and colors and given the challenge to make the move. The tone and feel is very different from other brands in the outdoor cooking category; playful, bouncy and bright.

To make it work as a template I explored ways to make the typography and animations procedural so projects could be handed off to other animators and require minimal editing.

Product animations were rigged in Cinema 4D with materials and lighting that pushed photorealistic without becoming a time-intensive render to accommodate accelerated production schedules.

Several procedural typographic transitions along with animated food elements were built in After Effects where the video was completed. Scenes were built as modules that can be trimmed or extended easily.

I Shot, animated and edited the video using graphic design elements provided by the creative agency The Variable (TVA).

    CB Vibe Key Features

This video was a fun challenge as the product was marketed as a social grill, but we didn't have the time or budget to film a lifestyle shoot. My solution was to film myself on the same turntable that I spin products. In After Effects I first keyed the footage, then animated masks to make the silhouettes look like different people and finally composited them all together.

I wrote, shot, animated, and edited this video for Char-Broil using a graphic template and intro/extro animations provided by the creative agency The Variable (TVA).

    How to Clean Your Grates

This is a selection from a series of how-to videos I produced during lockdown in 2020.

I researched and wrote the script with remote consultation from Char-Broil's Product Development, Engineering and Quality Assurance teams.

I then filmed, edited and provided voice over at my home. The series has been utilized by both consumers and in training for Customer Service members.

  • Current Electric Grill Teaser

    Current Electric Grill Teaser

This video was created for the package submitted to CES (Consumer Electronics Show) where the Current Grill won an innovation award.

The production was fast-paced with less than two weeks between script development and final delivery. I shot the video in studio using a Nikon D850 along with a Fotorobot 360 for spins and a motion control slider for dolly shots.

The product was not final so Adobe After Effects was used to composite physical changes and digital controls on the product. The final video was edited with Adobe After Effects.

    Char-Broil Brand Video

At the outset I was told this was the most important video I would make all year. The audience was the company shareholders. I was provided a script, then shot the majority, edited, auditioned voice talent, and delivered ahead of an important meeting. I was still employed after the meeting so I guess it went over alright.

    CB Modular Outdoor Kitchen Lifestyle

Produced for the launch of a premium outdoor kitchen series this video was shot on one extremely hot and steamy August day.

I wrote, shot and edited the video in collaboration with the creative agency Robert Louis Design.

The concept was to capture a day in the life of a cookout. The challenges of the shoot included a pre-dawn call-time, directing over 20 models and background talent, and timing multiple scenes to coincide with food prep.

The video was shot on a Nikon D850 with Drone shots provided by our Director of Product Development.

  • Cruise Launch

    Cruise Launch

This video was used as an in-store video at select Lowe's locations to showcase this brand new technology. The creative direction was to make the product feel 'epic'. Using a graphic template and script provided by the creative agency The Variable (TVA) I shot, animated, edited, and designed sound for the project. Video was captured with a Nikon D850 on a FotoRobot turntable. Video Copilot's Optical Flares was the major effect utilized in After Effects, but an animated Displacement Map was used to good effect to make the food shot come to life.
